[Class 140] [Also in Group XVII] Flexible laminated sheet material for packing or wrapping is made of sheets of a plastic material such as cellulose acetate or regenerated cellulose, one or more of which is embossed or formed with recesses so as to form with the other sheet or sheets completely closed cells, and the embossed portions or recesses are formed with predetermined portions of substantial extent which are of smaller depth or width than the other portions, thus providing recesses in the external surface of the wrapping material within which the articles to be wrapped may be snugly seated. As shown in Fig. 4, the embossments 16 on the upper sheet 20 of a laminated material are narrower in the middle than at the ends, so as to accommodate in the intervening spaces surgical ampoules 18. Alternatively the embossments may be reduced in height in the middle while having the same width all along. In Fig. 10, protuberances 27 on elongated embossments 26 form checks to stop movement of a bottle wrapped in the laminated material. Two outer sheets may be embossed providing shaped recesses on both sides. In this case an intermediate flat sheet may be provided, which may be perforated with small holes to permit communication between embossments on opposite sides. Two embossed sheets, one with less pronounced embossments, may be united to one side of a flat sheet with the embossments interfitting.
