Abstract
722,308. Spinning &c. spindles bearings ; lubricating. SCRAGG & SONS., Ltd., E., and FINSLOW, E. May 8, 1953 [Dec. 31, 1952], No. 33056/52. Class 120 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a textile spindle assembly comprising a non-rotating spindle 12 mounted in a bolster 11 carried by a swinging arm 10 and supporting a rotatable tube 19 adapted to receive a bobbin 20, the annular space 31 below the ball bearing 18 is closed by a plug 32 which has a downwardlyextending boss 33 axially bored to provide a taperingpassageway 34 around the spindle 12, and an opening is bored radially in the part of the bolster 11 surrounding the boss 33 whereby oil in a reservoir 16 secured to the arm 10 is in communication with the tapering passageway 34. When the tube 19 is rotated oil is drawn up past the lower bearing 18. Oil is supplied to the reservoir 16 through an opening normally closed by a cap 38. The upper bearing 17 may receive oil through an opening closed by a cap 26, the oil passing through the bearing being directed by a metal skirt 24 to an oil cup 23 secured to the inner surface of the tube 19. Oil may however be carried up to the upper bearing from the reservoir 16 if the tube 19 is rotated at sufficient speed, in which case the skirt 24 may be omitted. The driving belt 42 engages the tube 19 directly. Specification 698,141 is referred to.
