673,675. Bearings; force-feed lubricating. WARDLEY, F. W. (Riv-Officine di Villar Perosa Soc. per Azioni). May 26, 1949, No. 14141/49. Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii). A spinning and doubling spindle 5 is provided with upper and lower ball-bearings 4, 6 which are resiliently spaced by means of a tube 8 and spring 11. The tube 8 embraces the spindle 5 and has an upper flange 9 clamped between the outer race of the bearing 4 and its seat in the spindle carrier, and a lower flange 10. The coiled spring 11 is compressed between the flange 10 and the outer race of the bearing 6. The inner race of the bearing 6 is held on the end of the spindle 5 by a split-ring 7. A pin 12 retains the assembly within the spindle carrier. A cup 13 screwed to the lower end of the spindle carrier contains oil in which the bearing 6 is immersed. Oil rises to the top bearing through the clearance between the tube 8 and spindle 5 under the action of a fan 14 disposed above the bearing 4 and acting as a pump. The oil flows through the top bearing, along the edge of the spindle carrier, through a passage 15 to the space between the tube 8 and spindle carrier, and returns to the reservoir through holes 10<SP>1</SP> in the flange 10. A labyrinth is formed between the wharve 3 and spindle carrier for retaining the oil. The lower face of the wharve 3 is formed with radial grooves forming a bladed structure which tends to blow off the spinning fly by means of air sucked through the conduit 19 and radial grooves 20 in the flange of the spindle carrier.
