Abstract

Compositions for dry-cleaning and removing dirt from clothes and other textiles comprise benzine with one or more surface-active organic derivatives of phosphoric acid dissolved therein. Derivatives of orthophosphoric acid are preferred, particularly those containing at least one surface-active radical in the molecule. This radical may be aliphatic, cyclo-aliphatic, aromatic, aliphatic-aromatic or heterocyclic, containing at least 4 carbon atoms. It may be linked to the phosphorus through an atom of carbon, sulphur, nitrogen or oxygen. The compounds may comprise neutral and acid esters of phosphoric acid or salts thereof. Specified compounds are the tertiary ester of orthophosphoric acid obtained by reacting 1 mol. of octodecyl alcohol and 2 mols. of an octodecyl tetraglycol ether with 1 mol. of phosphorus oxychloride, and the primary ester of orthophosphoric acid and cetyl alcohol. The compositions may also contain a small proportion of water. From 0.5 to 25 parts by weight of the phosphoric acid derivatives may be used per 100 parts of benzine.
