In a spectacle frame having side pieces hinged either to a brow bar extending across the top of the frame or to bars which extend only partially across the top, the side pieces 4, and the bar or bars 3 are of metal wire, the ends 5, 7 of the two wires are flattened to form on each a flat projecting from a shoulder, and are joined by a pivot pin 9, the end of each flat being shaped to abut against the end of the opposite shoulder in the open position to prevent outward turning of the side arm beyond a predetermined position. The shoulders may, as shown, be inclined to the common axes of the bar 3 and side arm 4, the ends of the flats being correspondingly inclined.
