Abstract

720,900. Counting-apparatus ; zeroizing- mechanism. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. April 20, 1953 [May 1, 1952], No. 10684/53. Class 106 (1). A counter wheel, particularly for an odometer, comprises a rim 12 united by a web 13 to a hub 11, and a spiral spring 15 which has a radially inturned end 16 passing through a slot in the hub and co-operating with a ratchet groove 21 in the counter shaft 18 for zeroizing purposes. The spring lies in an annular groove 130 in the web, is retained by tabs 26 and is supported by projections 28. The groove containing the inturned portion 16 of the spring is shaped as shown to provide a strong driving connection during zeroizing and to permit a free ratcheting action during normal operation. The rim, web and hub are moulded in synthetic resin and teeth 120 are formed in the rim for driving purposes.
