Abstract
720,872. Rotary regenerative heat-exchangers. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AKTIEBOLAG. April 2, 1953 [April 5,. 1952], No 9194/53. Class 64 (1). In a rotary regenerative heat-exchanger comprising a housing 20 surrounding a rotor 10 containing heat transfer elements supported by a central rotor post 12, the said elements are arranged in two layers 24, 25 and a plurality of pipes 61 extend radially from the rotor post between the layers of heat transfer elements for supply of cleaning fluid thereto. In the apparatus shown in which air flowing through ducts 17, 18, is heated by hot gases flowing through ducts 15, 16, cleaning fluid flows through pipe 35 leading to the rotor post which is hollow, and thence to the pipes 61. An arrangement inside the rotor post enables the steam or other cleaning fluid to be directed through the appropriate pipes 61 to either the air or heating gas side of the rotor, this adjustment being effected bv a lockable member 43. Each cleaning pipe 61 extends radially outwardly to the space 65 between the rotor a.nd its housing and the outer portion is rotatable on its axis by the provision of a rotary joint 67. A number of pins 70 are secured to the outer end of each cleaning pipe and each pin successively contacts one of a plurality of pins 71 extending inwardly from the housing 20 in the space 65 thus rotating the outer portion of each cleaning pipe 61 and directing the cleaning fluid issuing from ports 68 in the pipes, alternately into the upper and lower layers 24, 25 of heat-transfer elements.
