720,428. Stuffing-box substitutes. CHRISTIANSEN, C. O. July 4, 1952 [July 13, 1951], No. 16889/52. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XII] Leakages from a fluid-carrying conduit 2 defined by a fixed channel member 1 and the shell 15 of a rotary furnace (see Group XII) are prevented by a seal comprising steel strips 4 and 5 arranged in slots in the inner face of the channel member 1 and pressed against a ring 3, attached to or formed integral with the furnace shell 15, by springs 11 adjustably compressed by threaded plugs 6 in radially disposed bores 7 in the said channel member.
