667,968. Stuffing-box packing. STAVELEY IRON & CHEMICAL CO., Ltd., and LUKE, R. F. May 3, 1949. No. 11813/49. Class 122(v). [Also in Group XXVIII] In a stuffing-box pipe joint the sealing ring 16 and backing ring 20 are bonded or otherwise secured together, and the backing ring has a lug 21 engaging a slot 18 in the socket to prevent rotation of the ring by the gland-nut 22. The sealing ring is tapered and has a lead tip 19. The backing ring may have an annular rib engaging a groove in the sealing ring.
