Abstract
719,991. Binding-posts; terminal boards. BUCHANAN ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Oct. 22, 1952, [Nov. 15, 1951.] No. 26498/52. Class 38 (1). A terminal comprises a rectangular frame member 10, Fig. 3, opposite side walls 22 of which are internally threaded at 29 to receive a screw 62, Fig. 9, inserted in an aperture 28 in the top of the frame. A U-shaped cap member 66, Fig. 4, fits over the frame and has an aperture 76 in its end for the screw, locking tongues 8o'for engaging the screw being struck up on opposite sides of aperture 76. The legs of cap 66 have apertures 72 therein to receive lugs 88, Fig. 6, on the ends of bent back legs 86 of a shoe member 82 adapted to pass through the frame and-also to be engaged by the end of the screw. The lower end 12 of the frame is adapted to pass through a slot 36, Fig. 5, in an insulating base 38 and is notched to receive the edges 54, Fig. 7, of cut-out segments of a circular locking member 40 when the latter is rotated. The member 40 is received in a circular recess 32 in the lower face of base 38 into which slot 36 opens. Conductors are attached to the terminal by inserting them in the frame between the bottom and the shoe member. Tightening of the screw causes the shoe to clamp on the conductors, pressure also being transmitted through the cap to wider portions 84 of the shoe which engage the insulation of the conductors. The tightening of the screw also causes the tongues 80 on the cap to be moved inwardly by the screw head to engage and lock the screw shank. An insulating jacket 90, Fig. 2, may be placed over the terminal apertures 92, 96 for the screw and conductors being provided. A plurality of terminals may be mounted on the base 38, the sides of adjacent jackets being received in slots 58, said slots receiving insulating barriers where the jackets are omitted.
