Abstract
719,425. Fluid-actuated valves. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. July 18, 1952 [July 31, 1951], No. 18178/52. Class 135. [Also in Group XXXVII] The pressure relief valves of the pressure generating chamber of a fluid-blast electric switch (see Group XXXVII) comprise valve discs 72, Fig. 4, slidably mounted on a bolt 74 and biased closed by springs 75 interposed between the discs and cup washers 77. During assembly, the bolt 74 is loose in a bore 80 in the housing 12 and nuts 79 are adjusted so that the distances D are equal. The bolt is then fixed by a pin 81 inserted into a hole drilled through the housing and bolt. This arrangement ensures that the valves open at the same initial pressure. The liquid inlet valve to the chamber (not shown) comprises a plate 59, Fig. 7, movably mounted on four supporting bolts 60 (two shown) and normally biased away from the inlet aperture 58 by springs 63 surrounding the bolts 60. Washers 64 encircling the shanks of the bolts 60 assist in guiding the valve plate 59 to its closed position when fluid pressure is built up within the chamber.
