719,285. Centrifugal pumps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 3, 1952 [Oct. 3, 1951], No. 24840/52. Class 110(1) In a liquid pump for a washing machine, the surfaces in contact with the liquid are polished and free from projections, the flow channels are free from sharp corners, and the impeller blades are of trapezoidal shape with their lateral faces subtending a large angle. This substantially eliminates the accumulation within the pump of threads, fibres, buttons, pins and other solid waste material. The impeller blades 13 are carried by a disc 9, a cover plate 10 being attached by screws 11. A portion of the liquid may be withdrawn at a point where its speed is high, for example at the discharge duct 7. and returned through a duct (not shown) to those parts of the pump at which waste material tends to accumulate. The plate 10 may be omitted provided that the adjacent wall of the casing 1 is a plane surface free from cavities.
