Abstract

718,865. Wave-guide switches. AIRTRON, Inc. Jan. 6, 1953 [April 30, 1952], No. 393/53. Class 40 (8) A waveguide switch comprises a cylindrical body having an input guide A extending to a central circular space from which radiate a number of output guides D, E, F, G, H, I, a shutter 56 being mounted to rotate in a circular space 20 in such a manner that it closes, at any one time, all except one of the output guides. The shutter 56 is in the form of a slotted cupshaped member whose base (not shown) is connected at its centre to a shaft carrying a driving pinion. The output guides, when shut, constitute half-wavelength cavities which reflect energy towards the central point in phase with the energy passing through the open guide. The guide passages are surrounded, at the point where they intersect the circular space 20, by choke slots 50. A modification (Fig. 8, not shown) is described in which the input guide is located eccentrically and is joined to the central space by a short length of waveguide. The output guides are curved in order to accommodate the latter.
