Abstract
718,725. Watches. SAUNDERS, E. L. Nov. 24, 1952. [Dec. 12, 1951; Dec. 20, 1951]. Nos. 29063/51 and 29818/51. Class 139 A watch case assembly comprises a bezel 1, Fig. 1, with a face opening therein, a substantially cup-shaped watch glass 2 having a face portion and a bounding wall portion and arranged in the bezel as a spring fit, part of the bounding wall portion, remote from the face portion, being of greater diameter than the remainder of the bounding wall, and a back portion 4, for the watch case, to receive the movement, arranged as a sliding fit within said part of greater diameter. The movement is located by a resilient member 9, 10 within a container 8, of flexible material, which lies inside the back 4, the flange 5 of which is a sliding fit in the bezel 1. The winding stem 3 passes through a smaller bore in a neck 15 of the container 8 and a slot in the inner part 6 of the back 4. The neck 15 abuts against the button 16 to form a sealed joint. An inturned lip 13 of the container 8 engages between the glass 2 and the dial 14. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the back 20, 21 is a sliding fit within the glass 18 to an extent determined by the number and/or thickness of the packing rings 22 placed between shoulders on the back and glass respectively. The glass 18 is a spring fit within the bezel 17 and the flange 21 of the back is a sliding fit within the bezel 17. A small strip 26 of flexible material is arranged round the winding stem 25. In another arrangement the back 27, Fig. 4, has an inturned flange 29 and the flexible or rubber-like casing 30 over the flange 29 and has an external neck 33 which tightly surrounds the winding stem 32 and abuts against a conical surface of the button, Fig. 5 (not shown). According to the second Provisional Specification, a ring of hard-wearing material such as stainless steel may be located inside the bezel.
