718,380. Counting-apparatus. VEEDERROOT, Inc. Oct. 15, 1951 [Nov. 18, 1950], No. 23989/51. Class 106 (1) A ratchet wheel 45 connected to the units wheel of a counter is actuated step-wise by a pawl 40 on an arm 38 oscillated, for example, by means of cams 29, 30 on a drive shaft 15, and a stop 65 associated with the arm 38 normally engages and holds the ratchet wheel so that a ratchet clutch (see, for example, Specification 581,816) coupling the ratchet wheel to the units wheel resists overthrow when the counter is forwardly reset by manual rotation of the central shaft 14. In the mechanism shown, the stop 65 is an ear on a lever 60 secured to the arm and rockable with it on the transfer pinion spindle 16. A second ear 64 on lever 60 prevents overthrow of the ratchet wheel 45 by the pawl 40. A non- return pawl 50 for the ratchet wheel pivots on the spindle 16.
