Abstract

In a compressed gas operated injector comprising a jet needle 25 located within the working nozzle 28 and an obturating cone 24 in the throat 17 through which induced gas passes e.g., dust-laden air drawn into vacuum cleaner casing 1, the needle 25 and cone 24 are mounted on a common stem 23 extending to the outside of the apparatus and having a knob 37 capable of being lifted axially against a spring 41, turned and released to alter the axial position of the stem 23 in a number of definite steps. The knob 37 carries a pin 39 which extends into one of several bores of different depth provided in a boss 35, or the pin may be carried by the boss and extend into bores within the knob. Alignment of the needle 25, cone 24 and knob 37 is facilitated by forming the needle in two sections connected by a coil spring 45, and the ratio of the effective cross-sectional area of the jet 28 and the throat 17 is maintained constant. The casing 1 has a detachable preliminary dust separator 6 below a filter bag 11 supported by a tubular framework 12, 46, 47, through holes 48 of which a reverse flow of air is supplied to clean the bag 11.
