Abstract

718,248. Cargo pallets for hoisting loads. 'MARKUSSEN, M. Dec. 1, 1952, No. 30470/52. Class 78(4). A platform for lifting cargo has devices for engagement by lifting rods 10 or slings and comprising upper and lower hook members 3, 4 facing each other and spaced to form an open slot 5 through which a rod may be entered and guided so that the rod engages the upper hook member 3 when it is supporting the platform but is retained 'by the lower hook member 4 when the platform is supported independently of the rod. In the form illustrated the rod-engaging members are formed by cutting away portions of the four legs 2 of the platform i. The upper hook member 3 is wider than the lower hook member 4 which has an outer surface 8 adapted to guide the rod 10 into engagement with the hook member 3 as the rod is raised by lifting slings 11. The horizontal distance A between the inner edge of the tip 6 and a vertical extension of the tip 7 is preferably a little less than the radius of the rod 10 but the tips 6 and 7 may be vertically aligned. The distance between the ends of the tips 6 and 7 is preferably only slightly greater than the diameter of the rod 10. Each foot 2 comprises a hollow frustrum of a cone open at its upper end so that several such platforms may be stacked with the feet of an upper pallet received in the feet of a lower pallet.
