Abstract

718,222. Joints and connections; shelves. NOAKES, F. R. Aug. 19, 1953 [Aug. 26, 1952], No. 21364/52. Classes 52(1) and 52(2) In a joint for a metal rack frame construction two crossing frame members of channel section are connected together by a stress resisting member having a portion extending through and engaging with an aperture or apertures in an overlapping portion or portions of the frame members clamping means being provided to hold the frame members together in engagement together with the stress resisting member. Front and rear uprights 10 are joined by tubular bracing members 11 which support shelves 26 and are welded to the uprights at 12 passing through apertures 15 to provide projections 16. The flanges 19 of longitudinal members 17 are cut away providing portions 20 apertured at 21 to take over the projections 16 and with holes 22 for securing bolts. A single longitudinal member may extend across several uprights and in further modifications unlipped channel-section longitudinal members are reinforced at shelf level by cross members having the base of the channel extended at each end to form a plate provided with a stress resisting projection or a lip clamped to the upright by a plate having a stress resisting projection or dimple which extends through the apertures 15 and 21. Projections may be formed at shelf level in the uprights 10 or inwards from the outer of the overlapping ends of the longitudinal members.
