717,997. Transformers. SMIT & CO.'S TRANSFORMATORENFABRIEK, N. V., W. Aug. 6, 1952 [Aug. 7, 1951]. No. 19862/52. Class 38(2) A laminated magnetic core structure has leg and yoke portions in the form of one or more windows, the portions consisting of layers of laminations of which one or more comprise laminations 1, 2, 3, 4 having mitred butt joints, these laminations being made from rolled magnetic material having a preferred magnetic direction and interleaved with one or more layers of laminations 5, 6, 7, 8 which are formed as rectangular strips and are arranged' so that the end of one of a pair abuts the side edge of the other of the pair, such that in each corner of the window the number of lamination layers having mitred butt joints is at least half the total number of layers in the core. The material from which the rectangular strips are made need not necessarily be of the kind having a preferred magnetic direction. The joints in the layers comprising rectangular strips 5, 6, 7, 8 may be alternately reversed so as not to be coincident in consecutive layers. A three-phase core is also described.
