Class 64(1) A water heater comprises a closed horizontal cylindrical, prismatic or similar shell 1 filled with water serving as a heattransfer medium, a system of smoke tubes 3, and a system of consumer water tubes 7, the two systems lying within the shell parallel to its axis, on opposite sides of a substantially vertical plane through the axis of the cylinder, and each system extending approximately the whole way round the half shell in which it lies. Hot gases from a firebox or burner flow through a central flue 2 to a rear smoke box, then through the flue tubes 3 to a front smoke box, and finally through a bottom flue 5 to a chimney 6. The water tubes 7 are connected together in series by headers or bends.
