Abstract

716,796. Hose couplings. STRAUS, M. Sept. 19, 1951 [Dec. 5, 1950], No. 21992/51. Class 99 (1). [Also in Group XXII] In a hose end fitting comprising a sleeve 2 and an insert 5 carrying a union nut 9, the sleeve and insert are of sheet metal, the internal diameter of the insert is equal to the internal diameter of the hose when inserted therein, and the sleeve has an inturned end 4 fitting the hose and a flanged end 3 engaging the end face of the hose. The nut is retained on an enlarged step 7 of the insert by a flange 8. The portion 14 of the insert is bulged outwardly to grip the hose end by an expanding tool comprising a mandrel 11 carrying a rubber bush 13 which is expanded by compressing it axiallly against the head 12 of the mandrel by an annular die 10 and a nut (not shown) in screwthreaded engagement with the mandrel.
