Abstract
716,704. Driving arrangements for textile spinning &c. machines. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. May 21, 1951 [June 19, 1950], No. 15314/50. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXXVII] A ring frame driven by at least two alternatively energizable electric motors permanently coupled to the frame to drive it at different speeds has the motors coupled to a common driven member so that transmission of load torque between each driving member and the common driven member is effected without transmission of load torque by the other driving member. The motors may have different operating speeds and may be of a multispeed kind, or different sizes of pulleys transmitting the drive may be employed. Separate rope, belt or like drives, preferably interlaced with those of the alternative motors, or a common flexible member may be used. As applied to. a spinning frame, two motors 1, 2 are each coupled to a shaft 3 by belts 4, 5. The diameter of pulleys 6, 7 and the speeds of the motors 1, 2 are selected to provide two different operating speeds. When starting the frame, the lower speed motor 1 is switched on and as the cops build up motor 1 is switched off and motor 2 switched on. The motors are again switched over to finish the cop. Automatic switch-over arrangements may be provided as described in Specification 716,705.
