Abstract

Textile materials containing natural and/or regenerated protein fibres and/or superpolyamide fibres are dyed with acid dyestuffs by impregnating with a neutral or alkaline solution of the acid dyestuff containing a non-ionic surface active agent and optionally containing also a neutral inorganic salt, heating the material by passing it through molten metal at 60 DEG -120 DEG C., and subsequently heating in the presence of acid, e.g., by acid-boiling or acid-steaming. Specified non-ionic surface active agents are the condensation products of ethylene oxide with higher alkyl phenols or with higher aliphatic alcohols, e.g., octylphenol and cetyl alcohol. A suitable inorganic salt is sodium sulphate. The material may also be passed through aqueous sodium sulphate after it has left the molten metal bath. Wool is preferably pretreated with an aqueous alcoholic solution of a caustic alkali. Examples are given of the dyeing of wool, regenerated protein and nylon fibres. Specification 620,584 is referred to.
