715,811. Oil gas generators. OFFICE CENTRAL DE CHAUFFE RATIONNELLE. Aug. 14, 1950 [April 3, 1950], No. 20164/50. Class 55 (2) The invention consists of a method of and a furnace for generating from heavy liquid fuels a combustible gas composed primarily of carbon monoxide hydrogen and hydrocarbons, the method comprising introducing the fuel into a furnace in one or more undivided streams directed towards the furnace floor and introducing at the same time into the furnace an oxygen containing gas, for example air, preferably preheated, in such quantity that the resulting oxidation of the fuel is only partial, the furnace comprising at least one vertical pipe 23 extending through the top of the furnace and adapted to direct an undivided stream of fuel towards the floor and discharge nozzles 26 extending through the walls of the furnace and directing air towards the portion of the floor towards which the fuel is directed. A burner is associated with a connection 24 in the furnace to main- tain a suitable furnace temperature. The gases are discharged at 22. In a modified construction air is introduced into the furnace along an annulus formed by a pipe surrounding the fuel pipe and by two jets directed obliquely towards the floor of the furnace and providing a turbulent movement.
