Abstract
715,284. Cathode materials and processing. EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI R. T. Dec. 19, 1951 [Dec. 20, 1950], No. 29720/51. Class 39(1) A caesium and/or rubidium cathode has the active substance contained inside a closed box, of which at least part is of porous tungsten. The caesium may be introduced into the box inside a glass capsule, to be subsequently broken, or in the form of a caesium compound together with a metallic reducing agent; examples given are the chromate or tungstate with tungsten, and the fluoride or chloride with aluminium or iron. The box itself may be of nickel or chromium, with an open end which is closed by a plug of porous sintered tungsten, and may be blackened or ribbed outside. The liberated caesium diffuses slowly through the porous tungsten to the outside in a replenishing action, giving a long life. The use of such cathodes in stroboscope, flash, and fluorescent lamps, and in cold-cathode thyratrons, is mentioned.
