Abstract

714,889. Two-part couplings; binding- posts. WARD & GOLDSTONE, Ltd., and COUYOUMDJIAN, A. O. May 27, 1953, [May 27, 1952.] No. 13366/53. Class 38 (I). A combined socket contact and terminal comprises a metal sheet bent to form a cylindrical pinreceiving socket 17, Fig. 5, with a tangentially-extending, U- shaped portion 21. A U-shaped metal block 15, Figs. 1 and 4, embraces the socket 17 and has a recess 19 in one limb for the portion 21, the other limb carrying a screw 22 by means of which a conductor may be clamped in portion 2I. The top of the socket I7 is spun over a washer 23 having a tab 24 which is bent over the free end of portion 2 I between the limbs of block I5, whilst the lower end of the socket is passed through an aperture in a coupling base 10 and spun over against a washer 27, said base having a further aperture for a lead registering with portion 2 I. The base has recesses 11 for the sockets with intervening webs 12. In a modification; the block I5 is G-shaped and embraces only the terminal portion 2I, being positioned alongside a hollow boss on the base which receives the socket and in which the latter is fixed by expansion of its ends.
