Abstract

Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXVI] A plug connector suitable for pressure cookers comprises a body made in two parts, and having a micro-gap switch operated by a bimetallic element mounted on a brass plate 7. A contact 11 on the end of a trifurcated switch member 12 moves between a contact 13 mounted on, and insulated from, a pivoted, channel-shaped metal part 14 and a back stop 10 mounted on a projection 8 from the plate 7. A bimetallic strip 15 having a heating coil 19 round it is welded to the member 14, and has a bent end 17 to engage the surface of an insulating cam 27. When power is supplied to the connector, current passes through the coil 19, the strip 15 heats up, and flexes causing the member 14 to pivot and the adjustable screw 16 at its end to press on the central switch member 126 causing the switch to open. The frequency of opening and closing of the switch contact 11 can be regulated by the cam 27 by setting it from the outside of the connector.
