Abstract
713,019. Resilient supports for seats. ROSS, H. A., and METALPACKS, Ltd. Oct. 17, 1952 [Oct. 23, 1951], No. 24698/51. Class 52(1) [Also in Groups XVII, XXV and XXXII] A shock-absorbing device comprises two plates a, a<SP>1</SP> spaced apart by springs f and provided with inwardly-directed spring- locating bosses d, the plates a, a<SP>1</SP> being held together to pre-load the spring f, by ties g which engage apertures e in the plates. The ties are secured by mutuallyengaging hooked ends which are locked by idented ferrules h. Additional springs i, abutting plates j, may be provided. The plates j may be held together by the wires g or by separate wires, or (as shown) by ties k having nipples l. The plates a, a' may be aluminium pressings and may be curved longitudinally or transversely to suit the shape of containers for fragile contents such as radio sets. The invention may also be applied to seats of vehicles. An assemblage of the devices may be formed by bolting together at holes n. Means (not shown) may be provided for minimizing wear of the wires g in the neighbourhood of the holes e. The springs f are normally precompressed to half their unstressed length.
