Abstract

618,602. Springs. BASTO, A. J. DE C. May 8, 1946, No. 13858. [Class 108 (iii)] A spring unit comprises a plurality of helical compression springs and at least one tension spring, arranged concentrically one within another and between abutment members at the extremities of the unit, each individual spring being disposed between two abutments constituted by separate annular members which, except for those at the extremities, are common to adjacent springs. In the construction shown, a compression spring c is welded at one end to a plate a carrying a guide rod b, and at the other end to a plate d to which is secured one end of a tension spring e. The other end of the spring e is secured to a plate f between which, and a collar h slidable on the rod b, is mounted a further compression spring g. The unit is applicable to weighing machines, in which case the spring strengths may be selected so that the springs come into action successively. The springs' strengths may be such that the springs reach their respective states of complete deflection simultaneously.
