Abstract

712,856. Valves. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Jan. 29, 1953 [Feb. 8, 1952], No. 3425/52. Class 135 A diaphragm valve for controlling small gas flows, comprises a stainless steel casing clamping between its parts 2, 3 a resilient diaphragm 4 of stainless steel or beryllium copper, and a removable seat unit 7 having a porous plug 8 slightly spaced from the diaphragm when it is undistorted. To cut communication between the valve inlet 5 and its outlet 6 a screw-threaded spindle 15 is rotated so that a self-aligning pressure pad 16 presses the diaphragm on to the seat unit 7. Pressure may alternatively be applied to the pad 16 electromagnetically by a solenoid plunger. Several seat units having different sized bores are usually available. A scaling ring 18 may be made of rubber, gold, aluminium or lead depending upon temperature and the gas being controlled.
