Abstract
712,425. Charging glass-furnaces. PILKING- TON BROS., Ltd., and GASKELL, J. Oct. 22, 1952 [Oct. 26, 1951], No. 25148/51. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group XXX] Apparatus for charging cullet and batch material into an extension of a glass furnace comprises a cullet tray 15 pivoted at its forward end so that it can be swung about the pivot 16 from a downward and backwardly-sloping position, Fig. 1, in which position the tray is charged with cullet, to an upward and forwardly-sloping position in which the cullet is delivered, together with a batch-receiving tray 20 supported at its forward end on the cullet tray and at its rearward end on adjustable stays 23 carried by the trays so that when the two trays are swung upwardly the cullet slides from the tray 15 and forms a layer 29 on the surface of the bath whilst the batch is shot from the tray 20 and forms a mound 28a on the layer of cullet. The cullet tray is charged from a hopper 25 and the batch tray from a hopper 27.
