Abstract
712,236. Endless-chain excavating-machines MUSCHAMP, N. J., and COWLISHAW, F. March 25, 1952 [March 31, 1951] No. 7518/51. Class 68(1) In a chain cutter jib consisting of a horizontal part and a downward or upstanding vertical part two or more sections of said jib are connected together for relative pivotal movement in order that the altitude of the free end of the vertical part may be varied. In one embodiment the free end portion 12, 13 of the jib is hingedly connected to the remaining portion of the vertical part of the jib, so as to be capable of pivotal displacement to shorten the effective length of the vertical part on removal of the structure retaining said end portion in line with the remaining portion of the vertical part of the jib. The end part 12, 13 is connected by a pivot 16 to the sliding block 14 of a screw-operated adjustment means mounted in the remaining portion of the vertical part of the jib. The adjustment means permits of a limited variation of the length of the vertical part of the jib to tension the chain. In a second embodiment the free end portion 22, 23 of the jib is slidably positioned in the remaining portion of the vertical part of the jib structure and is connected by pivoted links 24 to the sliding block of the adjustment means 21 positioned in the horizontal part of the jib.
