Abstract
658,041. Endless belt conveyers. VELDHUIZEN, P. E. May 13, 1949, No. 12774. Convention date, May 14, 1948. [Class 78 (i)] Apparatus for loading a ship with coal or other material comprises a plurality of belt conveyers supported in zig-zag relation between a pair of interconnected vertical lazy-tongs, the top roller of each belt being rotatable about the axis of the top fulcrum of a link of the lazy-tongs and the bottom roller of said belt being rotatable about the fulcrum of a toggle lever having arms of unequal length, the end of the longer arm being pivotably mounted on the central fulcrum of said link and the shorter arm pivotally connected to the next lower link of the lazy-tongs at a point intermediate the top and the central fulcrum of the said next lower link. As shown, belts 3, 17, 27, 37 are supported between a pair of lazy-tongs A suspended from a crane by cables 20, 21. The roller 4 of the belt 3 is mounted at 5 on the lazy-tong links 6, whilst the roller 7 is rotatable about the pivot 8 forming the fulcrum of a toggle lever consisting of arms 9, 11. The arm 9 is connected to the fulcrum 10 of the upper links of the lazy-tongs whilst the arm 11 is pivoted at 12 to the next lower link 13. Each belt is driven by an electric motor (not shown) housed in its top or bottom roller. Flanges 23 may be provided to prevent material falling off, whilst ridges 24 prevent displacement of material longitudinally of the belts. The lazy-tongs are adjusted by cables 22.
