Class 135 In a pressure regulating valve having a channel leading from the valve outlet so that the outlet pressure acts to move the movable valve element towards closure, the said outlet pressure is applied to the movable valve element through an auxiliary movable member whose movements are hydraulically damped and a resilient coupling. As shown, the valve comprises a movable valve element 2 controlling an inlet passage 1 and connected by a spring 8 to an auxiliary movable member 12, comprising a piston 6 subjected on its upper face to the outlet pressure transmitted through a channel 4 and a damping piston 7. The damping piston 7 has small diameter holes 9 therethrough so that before the auxiliary member 12 can move to adjust the position of the valve element 2 pressure fluid must be transferred from one side of the piston 7 to its other side which prevents sudden movements of the valve element and renders it substantially stable. Instead of a poppet valve as shown, the movable valve element may comprise a piston valve in which case the spring 8 would bear at its lower end on the top face of the piston valve.
