Class 145(1) A machine for joining together two or more tongue and groove boards comprises a magazine having a bottom opening through which sets of boards are advanced by detachable pusher bars 25 on an endless chain 26, two sets of convergent pressure rollers 56 for closing the tongues into the grooves as the boards advance and a feed roller 43, preferably spring-mounted and driven at a peripheral speed slightly greater than the speed of advance of the pusher bars, for holding the boards flat as the tongues enter the grooves. Side plates 4 on the magazine are transversely adjustable by a screwed rod 15 and a gate 17 is vertically adjustable by a screwed rod 24 for varying the bottom opening. The pressure rollers 56 are carried by holders 55 which are each in sliding and screwed engagement with and separately adjustable by a pair of rods 50, 51 having opposite-handed threads at opposite ends; spring mountings 60 for the rods take up excessive forces owing to faulty boards. There may be a single adjusting means common to the rollers 56 and the magazine side plates. The feed roller 43 and the feed chain 26 are driven from a single motor and the sprockets 33, 34 for the feed chain may be transversely adjustable on splines on their shafts. According to the Provisional Specification, the guide members need not be fitted with rollers and the boards may pass between a pair of feed rollers mounted one above the other.
