710,150. Cap spindle arrangements; winding transfer tails. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Jan. 9, 1953 [Jan. 11, 1952], No. 884/52. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) A cap spinning machine in which bobbins are traversed collectively and the caps are mounted on spindles passing through bobbin supports has each spindle blade movably mounted on a stationary rail by a spring mounting and mechanism for temporarily displacing the caps, either individually or collectively, under the action of the spring for winding a transfer tail on the lower end of each bobbin. A spindle blade 7, Fig. 1, supporting a cap 2 and upon which a bobbin 3 is traversed by a rail 6 is mounted in a rail 8 by means of nuts 9, 10 and a spring 11. A sleeve 13 located beneath the nut 9 has depending lugs 15, 16 that normally rest in shallow grooves 17 in a plate 12. When a transfer tail has to be wound, the sleeve 13 is rotated by means of a handle 14 so that the lugs 15, 16 drop into slots normal to the groove 17, thus causing the spindle blade 7 and cap 2 to be lowered to wind about six turns of yarn in a groove 22 in a bobbin flange 21. In another embodiment, a sleeve 29 is held against rotation in a rail 27 and carries a pin 33 projecting into a slot 34 in a rotatable sleeve 28 arranged to cause lowering of the spindle blade 7 when the sleeve 28 is rotated by an arm 36 that is preferably connected with a similar arm associated with a spindle spaced several spindles distant from the first spindle.
