Abstract
709,860. Regulating volume of flow of fluids. BAXENDALE, J. G. T. April 23, 1953 [May 17, 1952], No. 12533/52. Class 135 A device for insertion in a line for metering the flow of fluid therethrough comprises a plug P screwing into a casing C, the space between the inter-engaging threads providing a helical and restricted path for the fluid, and the plug is positioned by means of a screwdriver inserted in a slot P4 at the upper end to force the lower end into a restricted conical counterbore in the casing and flow will then take place through a transverse slot P5. A spring washer may be inserted under the lower end of the plug to assist in holding it in position. The threads on the plug may, as shown, be of the same profile as those in the casing but of smaller diameter, or one or other of the two threads may be machined to a flattened triangular cross section, or the thread in the casing may be rounded. The outer portions C2, C3 of the casing are threaded to enable the device to be inserted in a line and the middle portion C4 is formed as a hexagonal nut.
