782,559. Pressure-relieving devices for fluids; valves. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Jan. 3, 1956 [Jan. 21, 1955], No. 187/56. Class 135. A thermal safety plug comprises a body member 10, Fig. 2, defining a chamber 11 adapted to be connected to a pressure fluid system to be protected and having a pair of coaxial cylindrical vent passages 12, 13 of different diameters extending in opposite directions from the chamber 11. A plug member 14 extends through the chamber 11, the ends 14a, 14b being free sliding fits in the vent passages 12, 13 respectively. The clearance between each end 14a 14b and its associated passage 12, 13 is filled with a solder 15 of predetermined melting point. The differential area between the plug ends 14a, 14b is such that the resultant pressure on the plug is sufficient to eject the plug when the solder 15 melts. The casing 10 is screw threaded at 10b for connection to the system to be protected. In another example, Fig. 3, in which the safety plug is connected in series in a fluid circuit the body 20 is provided with threads at 20a for connection into a pipe line and the plug 14 passes through a lateral recess extending from the passage 21.
