709,512. Building motions for textile spinning &c. machines. TWEEDALES & SMALLEY (1920), Ltd., and HOOPER. N. Aug. 28, 1950 [Oct. 3, 1949], No. 25336/49. Class 120(2) A building motion for spinning and like machines in which the builder rail is reciprocated by a lifter shaft provided with balance weights has a reversing mechanism for the lifter shaft controlled by a member whose movement determines the time of reversal, the member being moved an automatically variable distance according to predetermined requirements by a second member. The reversing motion receives its drive through a change worm G, worm wheel H and bevel pinion J, with which bevel wheels K, K' engage alternately. Oscillations of a catch plate P, transmitted through a link Q to a clutch fork lever O, effect sliding movement of the wheels K, K' which are splined on a shaft L to drive worms M<SP>1</SP>, M<SP>2</SP>, worm wheels N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>2</SP> and lifter shafts F, F<SP>1</SP>. A pinion T on the lifter shaft F transmits reciprocating motion to an upright rod Ux adapted to rock a tripping lever V which, through adjustable tripping screws V<SP>2</SP>, V<SP>3</SP>, catches R, R' and weights W, W<SP>1</SP>, rocks the catch plate P. The end of the lever V operates in a slot in the upper part of rod' Ux and rests on its upward movements on a changeable eccentric rotated by a ratchet and pawl device U<SP>6</SP>, U<SP>7</SP>, U<SP>8</SP>. According to the shape of the eccentric either tapered head or radiused head bobbins may be formed. Specification 644,885 is referred to.
