Abstract
568,350. Gearing; linkwork. MILLER PRINTING MACHINERY CO. Aug. 1, 1941, No. 12465/42. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1940. Divided out of 568,346, [Group XVI]. [Classes 80 (i) and 80 (iii)] Consists in mechanism for conveying oscillating motion and for converting oscillatory motion in a vertical plane into reciprocating motion in a horizontal plane, means being provided for adjusting the amplitude of oscillation or reciprocation. The invention is particularly applicable for actuating the inker or vibrator rollers of a printing press. Form rollers 4, 5, 6 deliver ink to a printing. form which reciprocates horizontally in contact with the undersurface of such rollers. The ink is delivered to and distributed upon the form rollers by vibrator rollers 28, 29 and these have to be reciprocated axially in opposite directions. Near the end of each roller is a peripheral groove accommodating a roller 215, these rollers being carried by opposite arms of a lever 216 having integral therewith a bevel gear 218 with which meshes a bevel pinion 220 carried by a stub shaft 219 which carries also a spur gear segment 221 meshing with a spur gear segment 222 pivoted at 223 and having an arm 224 carrying a roller 225. Oscillation of arm 224 will cause oscillation of lever 216 and reciprocation of the rollers 28, 29. The roller 225 is embraced by a fork 228 on an arm 227 secured to a shaft 226 which carries an arm 229 to which is pivoted a link 231 carrying at its lower end a roller 232 slidable along a slot in an oscillatable driving member 234. The rod 231 is guided by a collar 233 pivoted at 246 to an arm 247 pivoted to a shaft 248 on which is mounted an arm 249, the free end of which carries a spring-pressed pin 250 adapted to engage one of a series of holes 251 for the purpose of regulating the amplitude of oscillation and reciprocation.
