The clutch sleeve, 29, is engaged by a lug, t2, on a yolre, 43, whose arms, est, are pinned to a rod, 45, slidably mounted in the frame, 36. Upon the rod, 45, are two coiled springs, elf', which respectively bear at their outer ends against the yoke arms, est, and between the springs, lG, is a linger, 4T, that is attached to a rod, l-S, slidably mounted in the trame, 36, so that it may move to and tro. lVhen the rod, 4B, moves in one direction it acts to compress one spring` against one yoke arm and when moved in the opposite direction it acts to compress the other spring against the other yoke arm, the arm against which the spring is pushed being; held by a latch, 49, against movement until the latch is released, whereupon the spring` being tree to act it will quickly move the yoke longitudinally and thereby shit't the clutch sleeve, 29, to change the gear connection with the worm shaft. The latch, 49, has a. shoulder, 50, which drops back ot the voke arm, l-t, with which it enact-s, and its tree end has a bevelled nose, 5l, against which the linger, ft?, acts and a'tter a certain amount of movement ot the linge the latch camined out ot engagement with the volie arm. Said lugs may he carried by a rod pivotally connected at one end to the builder motion arm or lever, 18, but tor reasons that will presently appear, I prefer the construction illustrated in the drawings. ln the drawings, said lugs, 53, are each carried by a nut, 5%, upon a shaft, 55, that has right and lett hand threads to engage the respective nuts so that by its revolutitm in one direction the nuts will be moved towards one another and by its rotation in the oppositel direction, they will be moved awayl lrom each other. The shaft, 55, is mounted in bearings in atubular or hollow rod, 5G,
which at one end has a lateral extension, 5T, which has a sleeve, 58, through which passes a shaft, 59, supported by the builder motion arm or lever, 1S. Upon the shat't, 55, is a bevel pinion, GO, which meshes with a bevel pinion, 6l, loose on the shafjt, 5S), and attached to the hub ot said bevel pinion, (Sl, is a ratchet wheel, G2, with which coacts a pawl, 63, on an arm, 64, pivoted to the huh of the pinion, Gl, so that by the oscillation or the arin, 54, the atchet wheel may be turned intermittently and thereby the shait, 55, revolved and the movement oi' the nuls, 5d, and the lugs, 53, towards one another and towards the linger extension, 52, may be produced, this action being` automatic-ally produced when it is desired to wind the cops tor warp thread. At other times for form ing a, different cop, the lugs, 53, are set at the desired adjustment so that at the proper time they will alternately engage the finger extension, 52, to canse the shitting` ot the clutch sleeve to reverse the direction oi movement of the builder arm or lever, the tubular rod, 56, in such ease being simply moved to and tro with the builder. arm through its pivotal connection with the latter. A builder motion for spinning machines comprising a lever, an operative connection between the lever and the movable spinning-element support, two oppositely acting trains of gears, and meansfor alternately connecting them with said lever comprising a clutch and clutch shifting means controlled by said lever.

A builder motion for spinning machines comprising a to and fro movable member, an operative connection between the latter and the movable spinning-element support, two oppositely acting Vtrains of gears, means for alternately connecting them with said member, comprising` a clutch, oppositely acting springs, and means tor alternately placing the springs under compression and releasing` them.

A builder motion for spinning machines comprising a to and fro movable member, an operative connection between the latter and the movable spinning-element support, and a plurality of separately acting means for controlling the movement ot said support in conformity with the requirements of the particular cop being built mounted on and moving with such member, and stationarily supported means coacting therewith.

A builder motion for spinning machines comprising a to and fro movable member, an operative connection between the latter and the movable spinning-element support, means connected with and deriving motion from said member for controlling the movement otl said support, and other means connected with and deriving motion irom said member for controlling'the movement of said support whereby the building ot the cop may be controlled and stationarily supported means connectible at will with either of said means.

A builder motion for spinning machines comprising a to and fro movable member, an operative connection between the latter and the movable spinning-elen'ient support, alternately acting power means, an operative connection between the latter and said member that control the action of said alternately acting power means, and automatic means for varying the time of action oit' said alternately acting power means deriving motion from said member.

A builder motion for spinning machines comprising a to and fro movable member, an operative connection` between the latter and the movable spinning-element support, alternately acting power means, an operative connection between the latter and said member, automatic means for varying the time of action of said alternately acting power means, comprising a clutch, two oppositely traveling devices adapted toact alternately on said clutch, and means dei-iv ing movement from the movement ot' said member to actuate said devices.

In a ring-spinning or twisting n1achine, the compination ot rings and travelers thereon, a stationary support for suoli rings, thread feeding means situated a fixed distance trom the ring, spindles, spindle rotating means, a carriage that supports the spindles, a builder motion for traversing said carriage and causing movement ot' spindles and bobbins supported thereby to and tro through the rings, the tavelers deriving their motion only from the pull of the threads as the latter are wound upon the bobbins, and tubular separators supported a substantial distance from the rings.
