Abstract

709,481. Light-controlling glassware. HOLOPHANE, Ltd., and HOLMES, J. G. March 21, 1952 [April 27, 1951], No. 9930/51. Class 75 (2) Light controlling glassware such as a car lamp cover glass is formed with a surface pattern of closely spaced convex lenticules of part circular outline. The lenticules may be spherical and of semi-circular or segmental outline as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the resultant beam cross-section being shown in Figs, 1b and 3b. Fig. 2b shows the beam cross-section for lenticules of greater than semi-circular outline. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement of different sized spherical semi-circular outline lenticules designed to give a theoretical polar curve for the resultant beam as shown in Fig. 4f. The pattern of lenticules may comprise lenticules of different sizes and outline covering all or part of the glassware, the uncovered areas being left plain or rendered diffusing. The lenticules may be arranged on the same or opposite faces of the glassware and may be combined with' circular prisms.
