Abstract

709,382. Cathode-ray tubes. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. April 28, 1952 [April 28, 1951], No. 10638/52. Class 39(1) A magnetic deflection system for a cathode-ray tube comprises two pairs of coils having active conductors disposed parallel to the axis of the system and joined by conductors lying transverse to the axis, discrete members of magnetic material being disposed adjacent the transverse conductors to reduce astigmatism and/or pin-cushion distortion. Fig. 1 shows a side view and Fig. 2 a cross-section of one arrangement. The ferromagnetic bodies may be iron plates 18 or may be of laminated iron, wires placed alongside each other, powdered iron, or material of low conductivity such as a ferrite. The ferromagnetic bodies may complete the magnetic circuit between the end turns of the coils and thus reduce distortion of the raster when a wide angle of scanning is used, for instance 35 degrees each side of the centre; they are preferably adjutable in position and are preferably disposed in positions corresponding to the corners of the raster.
