Abstract

983,149. Electron beam deflecting apparatus. TELEFUNKEN A.G. March 10, 1961 [March 10, 1960], No. 8759/61. Heading H1D. In a magnetic deflecting arrangement including two diametrically-opposite, continuously-wound toroidal coils 7, for effecting beam-scanning in one direction, arranged on a circular, ferro-magnetic core 6, the angle subtended at the centre of the core by the portion of each coil on the outside of the core is smaller than that subtended by the portion of the coil on the inside of the core. With such an arrangement, the distortion of the scanning raster, for a given light spot size, is reduced. Also, the coils 7 can be readily wound with their turns parallel without the necessity of rotating the core 6. As shown, a U-shaped insulating support is provided between the outer portion of the coil and the core, which support also facilitates movement of the coil around the core. If the coils are wound prior to being slipped over the two semicircular parts of the core, adhesive material 10 is applied to the inner side of the coils. The coils may be fixed in position on the core by spraying the coil and core with a suitable synthetic material, and may be used with a pair of saddle-shaped, horizontal deflection coils.
