Abstract
643,280. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILCO CORPORATION. Jan. 14, 1947, No. 1291. Convention date, March 26, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In a cathode-ray tube, for television reception or transmission, keystone distortion is corrected or produced by two separate and distinct constant magnetic fields extending across the tube in parallel opposite directions and passing through the tube axis. The arrangement is designed to eliminate the distortion in the form of bowing of the horizontal scanning lines which occurred in previous arrangements for correcting keystone distortion by establishing a single magnetic field through a cathode-ray tube. In the tube 11, Fig. 1, a strong uniform constant magnetic field 25 is established adjacent the fluorescent screen 16, the lines of force being parallel to the horizontal scanning direction, and a weaker non-uniform constant magnetic field 26 of opposite polarity is established between the first field 25 and the deflecting system 21. The fields, acting together, produce centrally on the screen 16 a keystone raster of straight horizontal scanning lines, the amount of keystoning depending on the amount in strength by which field 25 exceeds field 26. The fields are produced by two bar magnets 37, 38, Fig. 3A, inclined to the tube axis and having wide arcuate polepieces 35 and 36, respectively. Electromagnets may be used.
