Abstract

708,833. Impedance networks. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FOOT, J. B. L. July 17, 1952 [July 30, 1951], No. 18005/51. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XL(c)] An oscillator for the generation of high frequency electrical signals comprises, as a frequency determining circuit, a resonant cavity and a piece of dielectric material 9 disposed at least partly within the cavity and mounted eccentrically upon a shaft 10 so that the output frequency of the oscillator may be varied over a small range by rotation of the shaft. The oscillator comprises a disc-seal triode 1 having its anode-grid circuit and grid-cathode circuits coupled to short-circuited co-axial line elements comprising cylinders 2 and 3 and cylinders 3 and 4 respectively, the two elements being coupled together by an adjustable probe 5. Output from the oscillator is taken by means of a loop 6 and co-axial line 7. Coarse tuning of the oscillator is provided by means of a metal tuning screw 8 and a further fine-tuning control is provided by the dielectric member 9 which preferably comprises a circular plate eccentrically mounted upon the shaft 10. The shaft 10 may be rotated either manually or by means of an automatic frequency control circuit as described in Specification 666,088, [Group XXXV].
