Abstract
708,790. Switch cases. EDISON SWAN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 18, 1952, No. 18248/52. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXVI] A surface-mounting electrical device such as a ceiling rose 1 or switch, is provided with cable gripping means for preventing the supply cable end 4 moving back through the mounting surface 3, the gripping means comprising a base plate 2 apertured at 9 to receive the cable with a boss 11 having an internal tapered surface 12 surrounding the aperture, and a rubber ring 13 adapted to be slid over the rubber cable sheath, whereby a wedging action is produced between the ring 13, surface 12, and cable 4. The plate 2 may have a pair of bosses over which the ring 13 is stretched to retain it until the device is installed (Fig. 2, not shown). In modifications the surface 12 may be not continuous but interrupted to provide a number of gripping surfaces, and the plate 2 may be integral with the main body of the device.
