Abstract
708,667. Protective cut-out arrangement. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd., and MARTIN, C. A. June 24, 1952 [Oct. 31, 1951], No. 25462/51. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV] To energize an alarm or indicator (not shown) connected to input terminals 18 when failure occurs between the A.C. source, applied to input terminals 6, and a rectifier 1 which feeds a battery (not shown) connected across terminals 13 and which battery may float across a load (not shown), there is provided one electromagnetic relay 16 having two differential windings, one, 15, supplied with voltage proportional to that of the battery and the other, 22, energized from the source through an auxiliary rectifier 19, whereby contacts 17 of the relay are maintained open by balance of the windings during normal operation but which close when fault obtains to make an energizing circuit to terminals 18. As shown, the main and auxiliary rectifiers are three phase, being connected across the Scott connected secondary windings 8, 9 of two phase splitting voltage stabilizing transformers 2, 3 whose primary windings 4, 5 are series connected to a single phase source, one primary winding 5 being shunted by a condenser 7; alternatively both rectifiers may be single phase. Resistors 14, 23 are provided to limit voltage rise across the rectifiers should the battery become disconnected.
