Class 120(2) In a drafting mechanism of the kind employing a number of drafting systems arranged side by side and each composed of consecutive pairs of rollers, the top rollers of adjoining drafting systems being carried and weighted from the centre by an arm which incorporates weighting means and is pivotally mounted, at the rear end on a fixture at the rear of the mechanism there is provided arm retaining-catch means including a pivoted spring influenced support strut and a co-operating projection, mounted one on the weighting arm and the other on a fixed part of the mechanism, wherein the support strut has a centre of rotation capable of limited longitudinal displacement in relation to the strut between (a) positions in which the spring means urges said strut into and out of engagement with the projection. As shown the weighting arm 1 carries a depending elongated strut 10 which is mounted to pivot on a pin 11 which passes through an elongated slot 12 in the strut. Behind the strut 10 is a spring 14 one end 14b of which engages a groove 17 in the rear edge of the strut. In operation, starting with the operative position shown when the weighting arm 1 is raised about its pivot 1b, the leading edge of the strut 10 will ride over the supporting pin 18 until the hooked extension 10c thereon engages over the pin 18 thus holding the weighting arm in its raised position. The arm will then settle down under its own weight and in so-doing, transfers the supporting strut pivot pin 11 to the opposite end of the slot 12. With this change in position the spring 14 tends to urge the strut upwardly into the arm and in an angular direction away from the pin 18. Thus when the arm is again lifted slightly to clear the hooked extension 10c from its pin 18, the strut is moved angularly by the spring until the humped side edge 10d bears against the cam pin 19. The weighting arm can then be lowered freely into its operative position.
