Abstract
707,096. Thermionic-cathode tubes. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 13, 1952 [Oct. 15, 1951], No. 24026/51. Class 39(1) [Also in Group XI] A cathode heater comprises at least two wires extending spirally outwards from a common hub 5 to fixed leads-in, and so disposed that thermal expansion of the wires causes the hub to rotate on a pivot. An arrangement of three such wires may be fed with threephase A.C. In Fig. 4, four such wires 1, 2, 3, 4, are shown. The four lead-in supports 6, 7, 8, 9 are attached to a base member consisting of an outer section 11 having a slot containing an inner section 12, with separating insulation 13. Section 11 carries leads 7. 9, and section 12 carries leads 6, 8; thus paralleled filaments 1, 3 are in series with paralleled filaments 2, 4. 17, 18, 19 are heat shields of polished molybdenum. The surface of the heater may be curved, instead of planar: and the wires may themselves have an emissive coating, or may act as an indirect heater behind an emissive surface.
